Miracles Still Happen...

I wanted to share a very beautiful story of a beautiful miracle. I asked this sweet little angel's mommy to share their story of love, hope and happiness. I am so grateful to have known Christine for many, many, many years and what a wonderful gift it was to me, to be able to photograph her beautiful family and get to spend time with sweet Isabella. The following is their story...

Our daughter, Isabella Jeannette Dice, was born on January 25th, 2010. Isabella was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition, Holoprosencephaly (HPE), at 20 weeks utero. The rate of survival is very grim with this condition; she was not expected to make it to birth or out of the hospital. The day after she was born she had surgery to put a shunt in due to the hydrocephalus. We were warned there was a chance she wouldn’t get off of the breathing tube after the surgery, 12 hours later our little fighter was completely off. We got to come home to Bar Nunn for 11 days before she was life flighted to Denver for the 1st time. The doctors discovered she had meningitis and it had blocked her shunt. We were in Denver for a month for the treatment. Somehow the meningitis corrected the hydrocephalus, so Isabella does not have a shunt now. Her neurosurgeon called this an act of God. We were home for 8 days after that stay and Isabella began to have seizures. She was once again life flighted to Denver, where she was diagnosed with epilepsy. Luckily this was only a 2 days stay in the hospital and we control her seizures with medication. She hasn’t had to be hospitalized since the end of March and everything has been going wonderful since. With HPE, we were warned she would be a vegetable with breathing and feeding tubes. Isabella has none of these and loves to eat. She is also beginning to crawl and recently got glasses. The first day with her glasses she just stared at everyone, it was wonderful to see her seeing her world for the first time. I take her to therapy twice a week at the Child Development Center in Casper and we also go to mommy & me tumbling once a week.

We are very blessed to have Isabella, she is our miracle baby.
